Beet molasses is a product obtained after the crystallization of sugar from concentrated sugar juice obtained from the roots of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.). The product is viscous, dark, sweet, rich in sugar with a caramel flavor. Beet molasses is very palatable to livestock. It is a major feed ingredient for all types of livestock, including poultry. It is used as an energy source, as a binder in compound feed and as a carrier for other ingredients such as non-protein nitrogen sources (e.g. urea). Beet molasses is used as a raw material for the production of bioethanol, food acids, baker’s and feed yeast, as an additive to livestock feed, and in the baking industry.
